Some current external committee work: STFC Astronomy Advisory Panel, UK Square Kilometre Array Science Committee; associate editor, Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia; Royal Astronomical Society Council; Royal Astronomical Society Committee for Diversity in Astronomy and Geophysics; RAS200 Steering Committee; RAS2020 Steering Committee; RAS Awards Committee; co-chair, UK Southern African Large Telescope time allocation committee.

I am also a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a Chartered Physicist.
I also passed the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education. This higher education teaching qualification, equivalent to one-third of an M.Sc., was and still is a requirement for new lecturers at the University of Kent.
